For The Love of The Dream

The Journey To Getting and living My Dream Job

0 notes

Today is the beginning of a very big adventure!

Just finishing up my last minute packing and getting very excited!! In less then two hours I will be on board a plane to Orlando and starting my journey as an official Disney Cruise Line Cast Member! Words simply can’t express how incredibly excited and nervous and anxious(but mostly excited) I am! I have the whole day off from training today so I will most likely hang out by the resort and maybe head out to downtown Disney for a bit. Try to relax since starting tomorrow my next day off will be April 1st!

I will be sure to update as much as possible!

12 DAYS!!!

I leave home in only twelve days to start my new adventure on the Disney Dream!! Time has literally flown by and with the holidays being over I have had some time to really start getting prepared for my journey!

I think the hardest part for me was cleaning my room and closets out. It is strange to think that from now on my room is more of a guest room that I get to stay in every 4.5 months or so! I went from clothes all over my floor, 7 drawers stuffed with clothes, and a closet overflowing with crap, to one pile of boat worthy clothes, 1 drawer of clothes to wear till I leave, and 14 hangers of clothes in my closet. It was very therapeutic and I was able to donate a lot of really nice things to my local women’s shelter, but parting with the memories attached to certain clothes was a little harder then I thought it would be.

All in all, I am overwhelming excited to get going, but of course with any big change comes those slight moments of doubt and worry that can get a little frustrating to deal with. I just keep reminding myself, everything happens for a reason and that they wouldn’t have picked me for this role if they weren’t sure I could do it.

I am so honored to have some new followers, and I just hope that you all know that ANYTHING is possible. In July, I was so frustrated with how my life was going and really unsure how I was ever going to get through the rest of the year without losing my mind haha. I randomly decided it was time to try for something I could only dream of doing, and now I am about to be LIVING my dream. That’s crazy.

kissinintherain asked: Hi - I applied for a job onboard a Disney cruise and haven't yet been able to make any interviews. What happens at the interview and how long is it from being accepted to actually being on board? Do you have to pay a lot of upfront costs - flights, visas, etc? and how long is the contract? Sorry for all the questions I just really wanna do it, but need enough money first and am scared that I'll have to sign up for like a year!! Thanks :)

Well, first off Congrats on applying!! Taking the first step is a big deal! So as for the interviews themselves it really depends on what job you are applying for. However, from what I understand they all pretty much start with the disney recruiter talking for about a half hour about what exactly you are applying for and to make sure you have set the right expectations. Then you will sit down one on one with them for an interview and if they require any other “audition” aspects (for instance as an entertainment host i had to memorize scripts and perform them)

As for the how long part, I can’t really answer that. It is probably the most frustrating part about starting a career with any cruise lines. It is all based off of availabilty so some people get to go right away and some people (like myself) can wait a month or two or six.

Upfront Costs- you will have to pay your way to and from the audition. I’m an American so the only visa I needed to get was a passport, but I did have to pay for that myself, but I am not sure how the other visas work exactly. Everything else is pretty much paid for by Disney. They paid for my medical, my background check, and my flights to and from the boat.

Contracts again vary based on the position. Entertainment Hosts are usually on board for 4.5 months and then off for six weeks, but I know many other positions are on there for 6 months at a time.

Don’t EVER be sorry for asking questions!! It is the only way you will find out information, especially with these types of jobs! Definitly check out www.wdwip.com and look at the Disney Cruise Line Discussion Boards! It was my savior when it came to information!

I hope I helped some!! And Good Luck!
